Just learned that Senator Steinberg has appointed Robert Garcia, Vice Mayor of Long Beach, to an open seat on the State Coastal Commission. Garcia will replace Richard Bloom who stepped down to take his seat as a new member of the California Assembly. Garcia was one of three people endorsed by a coalition of environmental organizations, including Sierra Club.
Thanks to Al Sattler and Dave Grubb for representing the Club on that coalition. I’ve attached the coalition letter endorsing the three candidates, which includes some information about Garcia.
