COASTAL PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION
Dear Coastal Property Owners Association of Santa Cruz County Member:
Thank you for your support in requesting that the Santa Cruz County Planning Commission address the need for a “grandfather” clause that would allow existing improvements to be rebuilt after a loss from fire or other natural disaster. The Santa Cruz Planning Commission has now recommended that a “grandfather” clause be added to the Pleasure Point Combining Zone District ordinance. This “grandfather” clause may however only address those properties that will become non-conforming as a result of the Pleasure Point Combining Zone District ordinance.
We will continue to advocate for a countywide “grandfather” clause that will allow for all existing improvements to be rebuilt after a fire or other natural disaster. It was encouraging to hear at the public meeting that the Santa Cruz County Planning Department is working to address this concern and will propose an ordinance change during the first quarter of 2010.
